Sanmar Delivers Advanced Boğaçay-Class Tug to Bulgarian Buyer

Turkish shipyard Sanmar has delivered one of its Boğaçay-class tugboats to a Bulgarian company. The vessel, now named MARS, brings state-of-the-art capabilities and environmental standards to Port Flot Burgas.
1. Delivery & Client

Sanmar has officially handed over one of its best-selling Boğaçay Class tugs to a Bulgarian maritime operator, Port Flot Burgas
The tug was originally constructed under the name BOĞAÇAY LXXXI in Türkiye, and upon delivery, it was renamed MARS by the new owner.

2. Capabilities & Design
  • The tug is based on the RAmparts 2400SX-MK II design from Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd, optimized for ship-handling and multi-purpose tasks.
  • It is a twin Z-drive diesel vessel measuring 24.4 m in length, with a 12 m beam and a draft of about 5.45 m.
  • Its bollard pull is rated at 70 tons.
  • The tug meets IMO Tier III emission standards and includes advanced automation to boost efficiency.
  • Crew capacity is up to six with comfortable accommodations. Fuel capacity: ~77,900 L fuel oil, 11,500 L potable water, 7,700 L foam tank. 
3. Operational Role & Market Context
  • The new tug will serve in Burgas (Bulgaria’s second largest port), supporting harbor towage, mooring, coastal operations, salvage, tanker standby, offshore & deep-sea tasks.
  • Port Burgas is a key industrial & transport hub in Bulgaria.
