Sanmar Delivers Two Highly Manoeuvrable Tractor Tugs to Svitzer Bahrain

Publish Date:
Sanmar Shipyards has handed over two powerful azimuth-tractor tugs to long-time client Svitzer, to operate in Bahrain. Each tug boasts approx. 80 tonnes bollard pull, a free-running speed of 12.5 knots, Fi-Fi 1 fire-fighting capability, and an advanced hull form for enhanced manoeuvrability.
Delivery Overview

Sanmar has delivered two new tugs to Svitzer Bahrain. The vessels, previously named Deliçay XVI and Deliçay XVII during construction, have been renamed Svitzer Manama and Svitzer Awal for their operations in Bahrain.

Design & Specification
  • Based on the TRAktor-Z 2500SX design by Robert Allan Ltd.
  • Overall length: 25.3 m, moulded beam: 12 m, least moulded depth: 4.45 m, extreme draft approx. 6.55 m.
  • Minimum bollard pull: 80 tonnes.
  • Free-running speed: 12.5 knots.
  • Equipped with twin Z-drive propulsion and Fi-Fi 1 fire-fighting system.
Operational Capabilities & Design Highlights

These tugs are designed for harbour ship-handling and towing duties, offering high controllability and manoeuvrability due to advanced hull form and appendage configuration developed through extensive model testing and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) optimisation.

Partnership & Strategic Significance

Sanmar and Svitzer have maintained a commercial partnership spanning nearly two decades. The order underscores Svitzer’s continued trust in Sanmar’s advanced tug-design capabilities. Sanmar’s track record includes pioneering vessels such as the world’s first remotely operated tug and an all-electric tug under the ElectRA series.
