First containers getting discharged from fire-stricken ONE Henry Hudson

More than a month after a fire broke out onboard the container vessel ONE Henry Hudson at the Port of Los Angeles, initial operations have begun to discharge the first containers following completion of water discharge efforts.

Background of the Incident
The container ship ONE Henry Hudson suffered a significant onboard fire on November 21, 2025 while berthed at the Port of Los Angeles, prompting a prolonged recovery and salvage operation. 

Current Recovery Progress

  • Ocean Network Express (ONE) confirmed that the first containers are now being discharged from the fire-stricken vessel.
  • This follows the completion of water discharge operations in the affected cargo hold on December 19, 2025 at Yusen Terminal (YTI)

Cargo Handling and Inspection

  • The initial batch of containers being offloaded is currently held at Yusen Terminal for inspection by the U.S. Coast Guard.
  • Terminal authorities plan to complete this phase of discharge operations by the end of the week.

General Average and Release Conditions

  • The vessel’s owner has declared General Average, with Richards Hogg Lindley appointed as the Average Adjusters to manage securities and documentation.
  • Cargo will not be released until arrangements are finalized with the appointed adjusters.

Ongoing Investigations

  • ONE stated it is cooperating with all relevant stakeholders and will keep customers informed.
  • The cause of the fire continues to be under joint investigation by the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board.
